One of the most time
consuming (and often frustrating) details involved in
starting your new home journey will be selecting the
right house plan. If you already have your plans,
congratulations. If not, there are a number of steps you
can take to start the process.
|
Begin by listing the rooms that you'll
need in your new home. Next, list the room sizes you would like.
If you need to, measure the rooms where you live now and use
them as a gauge for size.
Do you want a single story or a two
story home? For health reasons or convenience, you may want
everything on one floor. Just remember, it's less expensive to
build up than it is out. By adding a second floor, you only need
to add walls, but building out means increasing the size of the
foundation and roof. Both add significantly to the cost of a
house.
The layout and/or terrain of your
property may affect the design decisions. On hilly lots, a split
level or walk out basement may work out best.
Whatever stage you're at in selecting
plans, your Peet Homes salesperson will be glad to guide you
through. We recommend that you don't spend money on blueprints
before our initial meeting and a lot inspection. There is
absolutely no cost or obligation for this service.
You can begin looking at plans either by
purchasing plan magazines at bookstores or browsing the
internet. We also have a plan library for your use. You may end
up selecting a plan that needs to be modified to fit your needs
or you can have plans custom designed.
We've included some links below to
popular house plan sites. Some offer plans by multiple design
companies, others design their own plans.
